A clear view of your practice and tailored practical next steps

WA Primary Health Alliance is now offering Practice Catalyst to general practices across WA.

Practice Catalyst is a practical online self-assessment and improvement tool designed for general practices. It has been designed by Australian health care consultants, Rebbeck, and customised by WA Primary Health Alliance for local general practice use in WA.

In about 25 minutes, Practice Catalyst can help your practice understand what is working well and identify priority opportunities. You will then receive a tailored action plan from the support team, with practical next steps and supporting resources. Please note that the action plan will be sent separately following completion of the self-assessment.

The plan is designed to support reflection, learning and action, helping practices focus on the areas that matter most.

Practice Catalyst is not an audit or compliance exercise. It is a confidential, supportive tool designed to help practices strengthen sustainability, quality and patient care.

Every practice has strengths, challenges and competing priorities. The challenge is often knowing where to focus first.

Practice Catalyst provides a structured opportunity to step back, reflect on your practice and identify practical actions that can make the greatest difference.

When you complete the assessment, you will receive:

  • A clear snapshot of your practice
    • Gain a better understanding of what is working well and where opportunities for improvement may exist.
  • A tailored action plan
    • Receive practical recommendations and suggested next steps specific for your practice.
  • Matched resources
    • Access to tools, resources and support aligned to your identified priorities.
  • Opportunities for additional support
    • Connect with Practice Assist and specific programs that can help you achieve your goals.
    • Support may be prioritised based on the needs identified in your action plan, helping WA Primary Health Alliance direct support where it can have the greatest impact on practice needs and population health outcomes.

Practice Catalyst helps practices reflect on key areas that contribute to being a sustainable, high-performing practice.

The assessment considers five areas:

  • Practice foundations
    • The systems and structures that support long-term sustainability.
  • Practice management
    • Leadership, governance and effective business operations.
  • Clinical operations
    • Clinical processes, workflows and quality improvement activities.
  • Patient care
    • Delivering safe, accessible and patient-centred care.
  • Community connection
    • Engagement with local services, health networks and population health initiatives.

Practice Catalyst helps practices uncover insights that supports planning and prioritising improvement efforts. For example:

  • Where can workforce stability, systems and day-to-day operations be strengthened?
  • Where can practices focus their clinical improvement efforts when capacity is tight?
  • What can practices do when they feel busy and productive, and yet practice sustainability is still under pressure?
  • Which improvements are realistic for the practice’s time, capacity and starting point?

No.

Practice Catalyst is a self-assessment and improvement tool, designed to support reflection, learning and action.

It is not an audit, accreditation process or compliance exercise.

The Practice Catalyst tool is designed to help practices understand what is working well, identify opportunities for improvement and access practical support and resources.

Your practice’s individual responses and results remain confidential.

WA Primary Health Alliance will use aggregated and de-identified insights across participating practices to better understand common needs, challenges and opportunities across WA. These insights will help inform future programs, resources, training and support activities.

Individual practice results are not used for comparison; the focus is on helping practices receive meaningful insights and connecting them with support that aligns with their priorities.

The Practice Catalyst tool is hosted on Kaleidoscope, a secure platform operated by Semantic Consulting. Semantic Consulting developed the Kaleidoscope platform, to support the design, distribution, collection, analysis and action of surveys and assessments in healthcare and other sectors. Kaleidoscope is used by many organisations to deliver real-time insights into data gathered from large cohorts of users.

The Kaleidoscope platform is hosted on Amazon Web Services and information collected is stored in Australia.  Practice-level data will only be accessible to authorised staff from WAPHA, Rebbeck and Semantic Consulting. Access will be limited to what is required to administer Practice Catalyst, securely manage assessment data and support your practice.

General practices continue to face increasing demand, workforce pressures and competing priorities.

Practice Catalyst is being offered to help practices gain practical insights while also helping WAPHA better understand what practices need, and how support can be delivered to where it is needed most to have the greatest impact.

The assessment allows WAPHA to see patterns across regions, using aggregated insights not individual practice answers. This will provide valuable evidence of practice needs, capacity and opportunities, helping us to support general practice across WA.

By combining practice-level action planning with regional insights, Practice Catalyst aims to strengthen the sustainability and capability of general practice across WA.

Support is available throughout the Practice Catalyst process.

If you have questions about the assessment, need assistance accessing your link or would like to discuss your results and next steps, the Practice Assist team can help.
